Exclusiv Deva Golf Course

This is the latest addition to New Caledonia’s golf courses. Forming part of the Sheraton New Caledonia Deva Resort and Spa, the exclusive Deva golf course consists of 18 holes along a portion of the Caledonian lagoon, a World Heritage Site. Thanks to the course’s architecture, surroundings and quality, golf at Bourail combines love of the sport with a high-end feel.

To make sure it meets the very highest standards, the Resort called upon the services of a golf course design specialist. The American Pete Dye agency has courses in Indiana, Ohio, Michigan and many other US states to its credit, as well as others in Italy and now in New Caledonia, its first project in the Pacific region. The specialist has paid special attention to showcasing the local environment while catering to the expectations of golf lovers.

Setting off on the right foot

Players soon came to describe the Deva course as being on a par with the best Australian and New-Zealand courses, and not only for its exceptional surroundings. To get to the end of the 18-hole course spanning some 6,663m in length for a par of 72, it takes a definite degree of skill. Particularly at the beginning. The ample areas offer many possible starting points, offering plenty of room for progression to amateurs, and wonderful challenges for professionals aiming for success.
Avoiding traps on the course

Though the fairways are broad, the local nature showcased by the architect emerges here and there, forming both an emblem of the area and an obstacle to be taken into consideration. Not forgetting the rather narrow semi-roughs and undergrowth or bush roughs that are dotted around the course, forming traps that are tricky to escape from.
Sand, for the technical golfer

They’re everywhere! No fewer than 117 sand traps are found throughout the course. Some holes also call for a little thinking time before taking the plunge: seventeen bunkers adjoin number 11 with a par of 3! And the difficulty lasts right to the end with hole 17 of par 3 designed with an island, with the lagoon serving as a focal point and a sea of sand to be crossed. Hole 18 with its par 4 rounds off the golfer’s efforts after a long and painstaking course and, once again, involves a sea of sand.
